I do love a good yearly roundup, and when it comes to beauty, it’s been a great year for new releases. Not much last year made me that massively excited, but this year I feel there’s been a bunch of awesome new products from both the high street and high end. So, I’ve gone over some of my old blog posts and rummaged through my makeup bag to find the pieces I used the most and loved the most to reflect back on! I always think it’s nice to revisit stuff I blogged about before so you can see the update on how I got on with it – and the true test is whether after I initially blogged it, did I keep it? Well, these ones were up to the job and most certainly earned their title.

I wanted to include the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette as shown above here too, but the Electric palette just tipped it for me. Finally being able to buy amazing neon and brightly toned shades for a pretty decent price bracket, Urban Decay absolutely nailed it for me with the most exciting release of the year. It’s always been hard to find good bright eyeshadow shades and the Electric palette just ticks all the boxes for me. Plus it’s so pigmented, great lasting power and just a real return to old school form from Urban Decay. The Vice 3 hasn’t left my side though, so does deserve an honourable mention.

Something I realised I totally forgot to blog about were the little Revlon Shadow Links that can be bought from the high street for just a few quid each. I have three shades and they’re all pinky and purpley, and as you can see from the top photo, they’ve been very well loved. I think these are a real great high street launch as more often than not you don’t use a whole eyeshadow, and might not want to use the colour all the time – so they’re affordable. I plan on purchasing more of these in the New Year!

In terms of creamy eyeshadows, two this year really stood out for me. First up the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Sparkle Eyeshadows were a fairly late contender to the top spot but secured their win for me after withstanding some long nights out, and generally becoming somewhat of a staple in my makeup bag. I think the reason I adore them is because they make making a smoky eye just that little bit easier! The Illamasqua Vintage Metallix I think were some of the best things Illamasqua have ever launched, and I really hope they expand on the three shades they currently have. I adore all three of the colours and wear them as much as I do the Bobbi Brown ones. Real long lasting, gorgeous pigment, a perfect base for eyeshadow – I couldn’t love them more.

I’ve also loved the Bourjois Mega Liner, it’s intensely black and ever so long lasting. It’s never smudged or smeared on me and makes eyeliner dead easy. More on this next year though, it deserves a feature of it’s own!

We know i’m a lipstick fiend, that’s for sure. Well 2014 certainly didn’t disappoint me with it’s new lip based launches and it was really hard to actually narrow it down! I went for the ones that i’ve reached for the absolute most, and just fallen head over heels in love with really.

First up is Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipsticks. I actually only have one of these, in the shade Glastonberry – but i’m dying to get my hands on more. I treated myself to this shade after seeing so many bloggers rave about the quality, and they weren’t wrong you know. Glastonberry is now pretty much my most worn lipstick ever and most of the time you see a photo of me I have it on.

They’re a bit pricey but definitely worth every penny. I’m lusting after more! Along the same lines, there was a similar release in America by Sephora’s own brand range, and it’s really proven to be quite the hit. At a much lower price, the Sephora Luster Matte Long Wear Lip Colors are a very similar alternative, and come in a range of shades. They’re a bit more like a lip lacquer, but dry completely to a matte finish – so achieve the same kinda look as the Charlotte Tilbury ones. The shade I have is Deep Plum and well come my trip to Cali next year I can say at least two more of these will come home with me!

Lastly is a release from Bourjois that totally set the high street on fire. In March they launched their Rouge Edition Velvet Lip Lacquers and they were a runaway success. I have four shades and love every one individually, although my most worn ones are Hot Pepper or Frambourjoise. At a much cheaper price than any other Lip Lacquer on the market, I couldn’t recommend them more.

This category makes me realise how little i’ve blogged about beauty this year as i’ve missed off talking about some real gems that I love! First up two from Urban Decay, and that’s their Naked Flushed Palettes and the Naked Illuminated. The Naked Flushed are a set of palettes all in different shades for different skin tones, but they come with a blush, a highlighter and a bronzer. I didn’t love it at first if i’m honest, and I wasn’t massively impressed. Then I threw one into my makeup bag on rotation and actually fell in love. The ease of it is second to none, and the shade Streak has become one of my go-to blusher/highlighter combos! For when I want a little more sparkle though, I head to my Naked Illuminated Shimmer Powder, and mine is the shade Aura. It’s a proper golden highlighter. I love it! Applies well, stays on well, not too much glitter and has a beautiful sheen to it.
The YSL Kiss and Blush product was something that totally intrigued me at first and also had me convinced it wasn’t massively going to work. Anyway, I put it to the test and found it’s a really great multi-use product. Considering the price tag is a little more on this, the fact you can use it two ways for me is a real winner. I used this so much in Summer I practically don’t think it ever left my side!
A late contender for blush of the year comes in the shape of the Charlotte Tilbury Chic to Cheek duo blushers. I have one – shade Sex On Fire – and i’ll talk about this more in the new year because the flush it gives you definitely lives up to it’s name!
In terms of nails I think the stand out product for me this year was by Revlon, and it was their Colourstay Gel Envy Polishes. These stay put with minimal chipping, and the top coat is by far the best high street top coat i’ve ever used. I love the selection of polish shades and something about it just totally stuck with me. I’ve since gone and bought a few shades of it and none of them have let me down!

So there we go! A bit of a long read but hopefully worth it! I’ve loved so many new beauty releases this year it’s inspired me to blog about makeup a bit more in 2015. I’m hoping to throw more beauty posts into my mixed up posting roster as even though I wouldn’t call myself a beauty blogger, it’s still a huge passion of mine and a big part of my life. I hope you enjoyed seeing what my favourite products of this year were and I do hope we see as many gems as these next year! Click below the photo to shop the products mentioned in this post!
